HDMI Input
The three HDMI inputs built into the Magnavox 26MF330B support uncompressed digital RGB connections from the source to the screen. I bought this set for the bedroom, where we have it mounted in the top part of a piece of furniture. The picture was very dark until I went through the details of the setup menu and found that there is an energy saver mode designed to meet energy star requirements. Be sure to turn this off if you can’t adjust the picture as bright as you want it. The picture was still dark and blotchy when used the first night. I found that the display technology used has a VERY narrow field of view (~15 degrees) in the vertical direction. I wedged up the base from the back so it pointed down at the bed and now the picture is OK. This set is on digital cable and the picture is now acceptable (not great,but OK considering the price). On the plus side, the sound is good for bedroom use and the remote has a one button sleep mode. I would definitely recommend this set for a bedroom if you can mount it fairly low or tip it down 10 or 15 degrees.

I wanted this for my RV and I wanted to mount it flush to the wall but the configuration of the jacks make the RCA plugs attach parallel to the back of the unit and stick out too far to be flush mounted. Other than that, nice set.

We purchased this unit from Sam’s Club for the same mid-200-dollar price mentioned by other reviews. And I agree with other reviewers that (1) it’s far from perfect quality, but (2) for the price it’s a very reasonable buy. I use it regularly with digital (HD) cable, Xbox 360, and PS3; works fine with each. Although this unit is still advertised (and apparently still ships) with firmware that only supports 720p/1080i resolution, note that Magnavox released a number of “software updates” to this model, one of which fully enabled 1080p resolution. (It also fixes a number of bugs with channel programming, fuzzy pixels, occasional audio problems, etc.) The update is VERY easy to perform, it only requires a USB key and 5 minutes or so. Full color, step-by-step instructions are provided with the latest update file; really, even people who are worried about this kind of thing should feel safe performing this tame of an “upgrade.” The update can be downloaded from… Read more
